Tangent, Trinity’s Ideas Workspace, is the home of innovation and entrepreneurship activity in Ireland’s no.1 University. Offering a transformative and experiential learning environment, Tangent’s programmes are designed to cultivate new & existing ideas and help individuals to put them into action, creating new opportunities for themselves, for society and for the economy.

The range of educational courses on offer equip people with new ways of thinking, new tools and methods to harness potential and make an impact either in the workplace, in creating new initiatives, in pursuing a career change or in building their own start-ups. Tangent equips undergraduate, postgraduate and professional students with the relevant techniques in design thinking, opportunity recognition and idea generation and with access to business leaders, entrepreneurs, academics and industry mentors who can help translate their ideas into value. Each course involves industry partners & collaborators in order to offer an experiential and collaborative approach to learning and presenting students with experience of real-world projects.

Postgraduate Springboard+ Funded Courses

Postgraduate courses, funded under the Springboard+ initiative, are aimed at budding entrepreneurs, those wanting to build their critical & lateral thinking skills in the workplace and those seeking to equip themselves for a return to work or a change in career. Each course has creativity, problem solving and innovation at its core. These part-time courses will be delivered over a 22-26 week period through Trinity’s virtual learning environment:

3 popular postgraduate courses return this Autumn, opening opportunities for 180 new students:

● Postgraduate Certificate in Creative & Cultural Entrepreneurship
● Postgraduate Certificate in Innovation and Enterprise Development
● Postgraduate Certificate in Creative Thinking, Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Later in the year, a further 90 students will have the opportunity to focus on making a difference in the societal-impact areas of climate and healthcare:

● Postgraduate Certificate in Climate Entrepreneurship
● Postgraduate Certificate in Healthcare Innovation

Run entirely online for this year, the 5 Postgraduate Certificate Level 9 courses are open to anyone across the country. Under the Springboard+ programme, eligible students who are unemployed or are returning to the workforce will not have to pay fees, while those in employment will pay only 10% of the course fee.

Professional Education & Personal Development Programmes

Tangent’s professional education series is designed to furnish professionals with new skills for the future of work and enable them to embrace change and harness new opportunities.

Tangent currently offers 3-hour Masterclasses in core skills needed for innovative thinking in the workplace including Design Thinking, Creative Collaboration and Storytelling. These courses are highly interactive using story, videos, interactive presentations, case study and practical exercises. A new 6-day Executive Breakout programme is also coming soon, designed for middle and senior managers who want to think differently, work more collaboratively and take their team and organisations to the next level.

Starting 1st October, a new executive programme in Digital Transformation in Life Sciences Manufacturing will enable leaders across all disciplines within the sector to address digital challenges and successfully plan, deliver, manage and realise the benefits. Individuals will be equipped with the latest tools & techniques in design thinking and agile methodologies.

Undergraduate Certificate in Innovation & Entrepreneurship

Tangent also offers an Undergraduate Certificate, run part-time, to help develop the core skills of innovation and enterprise in the Trinity undergraduate student population. It is currently open to Senior Fresh and Junior Sophister Trinity students from any discipline with Trinity.
